Liderado por una lámpara romana una subasta de Christie's alcanzó 8,7 millones

La subasta la ha liderado una lámpara romana, de bronze y de unos 80 cm de alto, fechada en el primer si

glo antes de Cristo. Representa un joven que podría ser Alexander Helios, el hijo de Marco Antonio y Cleopatra. Se vendió el pasado día 10 de junio por 1,14 millones de dólares (su valor se estima entre 800.000 y 1,2 millones).

El 64% de los lotes vendidos en la casa de subastas alcanzaron los 8,69 millones en ventas, un drástico aumento respecto a Junio de 2009 cuando se rondaban los 3,4 millones.

La venta incluyó tres obras que algunos críticos han denunciado que provenían de excavaciones ilegales en Italia y fueron vendidos por Giacomo Medici que está actualmente en la cárcel por comerciar con obras obtenidas ilegalmente. Entre estas obras estaban un torso de mármol del sigo II que se vendió por 20.000 dólares (valorado en 20-30.000) y una diosa griega de terracota del siglo III que se vendió por 7.500 dólares (valorada en 6-8.000).

También se subastó a precio alto un casco griego de bronce fechado en el siglo VII A.C., alcanzando 842.000 dólares, sobre un valor estimado de 350-550.000. Y una patera de plata con dorado (un plato hondo con un mango largo) que siendo su valor más alto de 250.000 dólares, se vendió por 662.000. "Las obras griegas y romanas alcanzaron precios particularmente altos en todas las pujas" declaró Molly Morse Limmer, Director de Antigüedades de Christie's en un comunicado.

La única obra que no era griega o romana fue un busto de un oficial, datado entre el 380 y el 343 A.C. Estaba entre los principales lotes que superaron sus estimaciones. Una vez perteneció al embajador de Francia en Egipto. Se vendió por 842.500 dólares y estaba valorado en 500-700.000 dólares.
